Skyrim VR... Day 22

I tried downloading a few different mods to fix my followers' weird armour glitch, but none of them seemed to work… in fact one of them made it worse - the parts that were working disappeared. So in the end I gave up, then jumped back down that hole into the oubliette.

There was a dead body there which I looted while my followers magically walked thru the locked door to meet up with me rather than jumping down the hole like a true dragonborn. Then I used my lockpicks to unlock that same door and headed out.

I thought the place was going to be full of bandits, but apparently it was full of forsworn. They jumped me like they were bandits, which I thought was a little odd since I helped a bunch of them get free at Markarth. There were rather a lot of them, but they were low level and even though my dog ended up looking like a pin cushion, we made rather quick work of them.

Pin Cushion

It was sundown by the time I had finished going room to room to make sure I had all the good stuff from the castle, and we headed out.

We found what looked like a dead peasant on the road with some ne'er-do-wells standing over her. They called out for me to render assistance then jumped me the second I came closer. A point blank fireball sorted out the vampires from the dragonborns, and I gathered their dust and reflected that there was a second dead peasant nearby.

It seemed like a regular vampire was out with a fledgling and a recently blooded vampire, probably having their first feeds of their new eternal lives. I guess they’ll be disappointed they didn’t get to feast on more peasants before I put an end to that evil.

As it was a goal of mine to get to Rorikstead, mostly because it featured in a popular song, we headed off in that direction and when I got there we booked a room in the inn and waited ‘til morning, at which time I was going to be a tourist at this famous town.

Sadly, it seems I was swindled, this was just a quaint farming village, which was apparently quite new and not at all related to the town in the song. I even met Rorik. He was not the thing of legends. He said that they worked hard and the gods blessed their crops, hence why they had surplus to export to Whiterun.

It seemed a little fishy, but I didn’t stick around too long… I got sidetracked by a signpost that said it led to “Dragon Bridge”, which sounded a lot more interesting and song-worthy.

Sign Post

So I headed down the road, killed a few bandits, a sabretooth, and came to a bridge with a fort above it. It didn’t look like what I had expected Dragon Bridge to be like, but I approached it… and got massacred by bandits.

So my last half hour or so of gaming was wasted, I woke up in the inn and repeated groundhog day. This time skipping all the dialog and harvesting the bare minimum number of veggies to get the farmers on side before running off down the road.

This time I started killing the random bandits near the sign post preemptively, and saw some more approaching from the other path. So I sent a fireball their way, and… turns out they were justicars escorting a prisoner.

Whoops.

After there were no witnesses left to that little misunderstanding, and it said that my bounty had been removed, I headed back down to kill that sabretooth. Except this time it was a couple of wolves, and I couldn’t be bothered. Got to not-dragon-bridge.

SAVE.

Sent some fireballs the way of the bandits in the fort to get the ball rolling. They didn’t much appreciate it, and the fight didn’t go so well. But luckily I didn’t have to repeat the whole day again.

Next time around we had better luck, until I got to the leader who was level 44 (I’m 27)... and he 2-shotted me.

Fourth time around, the leader apparently didn’t hear all the commotion and was waiting in his little house while I looted all his underlings. Then I did the stealth trick and a x3 sneak attack arrow to the face halved his health and we were able to finish him off.

I read his diary. Apparently he was going to quit banditing and had left his treasure in a chest on a nearby island. So I made sure to clear it and continued back on the road to Dragon Bridge, which did not fail to disappoint.

Dragon Bridge

I checked into the local inn and will explore the area in the morning.
