Skyrim VR... Day 37

Having been badly distracted on my trip to the headwaters (what's new, Skyrim is good at distracting you), I thought I'd better actually get there... and I did! And dealt with this wooden tree thing and grabbed its taproot to soak in the headwaters so we could fix wizardy mcwizardface's mushroom house.

Ded Tree

When soaking the taproots in the headwaters, I found a pair of gauntlets in a chest and gave them to Lydia, and um... is she a ghost? I could see right through her arms... it was a little bit disconcerting to discover one of your companions is non-corporeal.

Lydia Arm Glitch

Anyway, headed back out and continued my trek up the mountain and at the top, there was this tunnel type thing with statues flanking it looking like those laser-eyed statues from Neverending Story. Gotta say I was nervous A-F wandering between them!

Zapper Statues

Though apparently I was nervous about the wrong thing, because as soon as I walked thru the other side of the tunnel, I heard the roar of a dragon!

Total Burnination

The dragon was roosting on top of a ruin, full of Draugr, and pissed off about a frost troll. Of course, as soon as he burned the troll, he came for me... and I finally got around to taking a safari shot with one of these dragons.

Safari

I climbed up the ruins, killed the Draugr, and then found this fellow sleeping the long sleep on a dias... he must have been pretty important to have this whole temple type thing built for him.

Resting Skellington

So I climbed on top his dias, grabbed his magical swords and waved them about, danced a little jig, and then handed them to Sofia so we could sell them next time we go to town.

Swords

One thing that's been bugging me for a while is the steepness of everything in Skyrim... having never played the game before VR... was it always steep? Or is there just something weird about being in VR perspective that has made everything look way steeper than what would be usual?

Stairs

Again, another steep climb up the mountain (like, steep enough that I would ski down it, but no way I would be able to climb up without using my hands), and disturbed some more frost trolls.

Frost Troll

They had turned a henge... (is that the word? like not the whole stonehenge circle thing, just 2 standing stones with one on top)... into a dinner pit. It had a fresh body in there as well as some gnawed bones.

Troll Dinner

After getting rid of the trolls, I headed down to help the cat girl out. I mean, she isn't actually a cat girl, but she's got war paint whiskers, so close enough...

Meow =^._.^=

We headed into the barrow, and it was a little bit fancy... had some nice flaming braziers and this big pool of water which slowly drained away to allow us to pass.

Revealed Path

She went and spoke to this old dead spirit, and he judged her unworthy. Said she'd been lazy and that was why they got kicked out of the mead hall. I was like... fair enough. She kinda was.

Not Worthy

I was disappointed that he didn't let me pick up the axe and test my worth too, but I didn't really need to be a leader of a mead hall anyway. So I agreed to keep cat-girl's secret about not being worthy and she went on her way back to lead the hall.

Over a pass and down the other side were some bandits... who suddenly turned into big hulking werebears! Not sure why all of them didn't change, but yeah... had a bit of a skirmish.

Werebear

Found this poor fellow crushed under a boulder at the bottom of the lake that the werebears were camping at... I guess it's not wise to swim down to loot a treasure chest in case you get trapped by falling boulders? (so I swam down and looted the chest)...

Deaddybones

Figured I probably should get those taproots back to wizardy mcwizardface before they dry out and need dipping in the headwaters a second time, so I wandered back to his mushroom house and... DRAGON!

Dragon!

Things were going pretty well, until I ran out of arrows. Suddenly I was fighting for my life with no ranged weapons while the dragon burninated this silly arrow-less peasant.

Luckily I had given staves to my followers, so they were like pew-pew-pew while I stood there being blow-torched.

Eventually the dragon landed and I got to hack at it with my sword.

Dragonsword

Headed inside and chatted to wizardpants, he asked me to be a guinea pig for some experiment... said there might be some side-effects... but I'm a walking side-effect as it stands, so I thought why not?

Fixed his house while I was there, and bought every 'mage arrow' spell known to mankind.

As I was walking out of the mushroom house, a courier handed me a letter from Ralis. Apparently I need to go back to the dig site again, so I assume he's got everyone killed a second time.

Ralis

I was right, he had let the second bunch get murdered and wanted me to clean out the Draugr again. So I headed in...

They had done a good job! The dias that the boots were sitting on was on that now raised platform.

Boot Stand

I could hear the dragon runes chanting at me faintly from this room, but I couldn't find them... I think perhaps there's still some more digging to do.

Headed deeper into the dungeon and went to loot a body and heard a noise behind me.

The game pauses when you're in a menu, but you can still look around (it's VR after all) and damn, that scared me.

Jumpscare

Got to the end of the areas they had excavated and found this final digger lying in a pool of blood.

Ded Digger

She had written a note to her mother, which made me feel even worse about the whole situation... I guess I have to go find her mum and give her some compensation.

Letter

I headed back out to tell the Ralis that I'd cleared the place. He said he needed more funding to employ new diggers, and some mercenaries in order to protect them. It's getting to be an expensive operation, but I guess I know I've got a shout coming?

Been a long day... headed back home.

Home Sweet Home

Inside... the dead bodies were gone, but the skull cabinet was still... full of skulls. I guess I should do something about that sooner or later.

Skulls

Fell flat on my face... I've been awake so long I didn't care if I was going to get possessed by the strange forces...

Bed

And woke up a few hours later without being kidnapped! I think going to sleep during the day, might be safe? I shall have to remember that.
