Skyrim VR... Day 33

The blacksmith back at town (who seems a bit of an ass) wanted me to go get his ancient nordic pickaxe from the old man who had borrowed it. So I headed to the nearby mines and the old man was having a domestic, he wanted to go into the mines and find out what happened to his father, but his missus was like ‘no, you’re too old you’ll get killed’...

Enter strapping young dragonborn from stage left.

Don’t worry sir, if you give me that pickaxe, I’ll go find out what happened to your pops. Don’t put your back out.

And loot your lockbox while you’re not looking.

Lockbox

The mines were rather extensive, and full of Draugr that weren’t best pleased to be disturbed.

Ded Draugr

But disturb them we did, and helped ourselves to their treasure.

Treasure

Now I know I boasted about Sofia being able to carry all my loot, but I’ve been amassing dozens of different jewellery items to enchant and sell that I’ve been holding on to, so my inventory started to become a bit of a problem. I could loot one or two items at best then have to hand them off to her, so progress slowed down a little bit.

Arrows Not Included

Eventually we came to a rather sinister looking door and found the skeletal remains of old pops’ pop. His journal told of a long slow death. He had survived a run in with the Draugr, but was mortally injured in the process. He had also found a magical sword that was key to opening the door, but had not figured out how to do it.

Sinister Door

Well, neither could I. I picked up the sword (which instantly slowed me down and since it was a quest item I couldn’t get rid of it). Handed some other stuff to Sofia then started waving the sword around. Nothing. Googling in VR is a bit of a hassle, holding your phone up to your face and looking down the small gap where your nose is… hmm, apparently you have to do a power attack, not a regular attack. I’m only 120 hours in, and apparently have never learned how to do a power attack.

The door opened easily after that, and it was time to run the gauntlet.

I got hit by a few swinging ceiling axes, but my the screams of my followers and the way they limped slowly to catch up suggested they may have been hit quite a bit more.

At the end of the gauntlet was a room with a chest that was clearly not any form of trap.

Not A Trap

I opened it safely and took the 2 gold coins that was inside, then looked up and oh my, a level 70 lich of some kind?

Luckily I’m getting pretty good with my bow headshots, so my followers soaked up the damage while I stuck him full of arrows.

Unlocked a new dragon word of power too.

Dragon Runes

I was like sweet, dungeon done, must be time to go back to town then log out for the night.

Well, on the way out I grabbed one of the books, and ended up in some fucked up eldritch plane of books and tentacle monsters.

Tentacle Monsters

So much for getting back to town.

Flying Books

Fought my way past a few wraithy type mobs, got molested by a few tentacles (I’m an elf, seems par for the course?), killed a boss and found the book I had touched on the pedestal.

Fancy Tome

Book-ception! I guess I should read it.

Ooh, Glowing Words

Well, that looks helpful I suppose.

Immunity for Followers

Couldn’t figure out how to get back out of this demiplane, so wandered back to the start, got molested a few more times, still couldn’t find a way out. Resigned myself to more tentacle love and searched the place thoroughly and… oh duh. I just had to read the big book one more time.

Back into the real world, I was able to leave the dungeon finally, and then the quest sword was no longer a quest sword and I could give it to Sofia to carry back to town.

A few bandits may have been injured on the way back to town. Gave the blacksmith his pickaxe, and as half expected he didn’t actually want it, he just wanted to make a point. Douchebag.

The old man was happy to find out what had happened to his old man, and then I was happy to go to bed at like 1am…
