Skyrim VR... Day 30

There was a giant nearby that someone had asked me to deal with, so we headed in that general direction. There was a hungry bear and a couple of snow cats that charged out of the forest looking to make a meal of me, but they will make some nice leather armour next time I do some crafting.

We scouted the giant camp… one mammoth, one giant. Couple of arrows for the mammoth, three for the giant, headed in to … oh shit! There were two giants! Loosed some more arrows, thankful the giant went for my followers and didn’t yeet me back to Whiterun.

So far I’ve been lucky in the yeet-avoidance department.

The next task was to go put Elsif’s dead hubby’s horn at a shrine to Talos in the mountains nearby, so we went trekked up and down the other side. Gotta say, in 2022, with the scale of games like Cyberpunk and RDR2, Skyrim can feel a bit small… it was a short stroll up one side of the mountain, and down the other. Not complaining, just a little immersion breaking… makes me hope for a theoretical Elder Scrolls 6 to come to VR?

Anyway, the elf went over the mountain to see what she could see, the elf went over the mountain to see what she could see, the elf went over the mountain to see what she could see… and all that she could see was the other side of the mountain!

Eventually I found the actual shrine, though it took a bit of retracing my steps and consulting the map.

And then I got jumped by some thalmor who were camping at the shrine to talos and killing any who dared to worship that false god.

We had a bit of a toe to toe skirmish, because I wasn’t expecting them, so wasn’t prepared with my ninja bowage.

Also realised that my sword wasn’t in my VRIK holster after that dream sequence from a few sessions ago, so struggled with that fight a bit, but got thru it in the end.

Put the horn to rest at the altar, then went looking for the next thing to do.

Seemed like it was time to make a run for Windhelm, so I fast travelled to the hags hut to get close and… she had repopped. So I killed my ex-fiance a second time and moved on.

Windhelm was different… last time I was here, I was using UVRE not FUS and they must have added a LOT of geometry mods, because this vanilla city was pretty sparse by comparison.

Stopped in at a museum and read “the book of fate”... it was blank, which I guess means my fate has not yet been written?

Museum

Next I talked to some shady shopkeeper who had happened across a golden ring that looked a lot like the one a certain noblewoman was missing. He asked if I would return it to her house, so when she found it he wouldn’t have trouble with the guards.

On the way over, a young orphan offered to sell me flowers… I remember her from UVRE (it was a bit sad finding her sleeping out in the snow), so I bought all her flowers then snuck into this noble house and returned the ring without anybody noticing.

Gathered a few more quests for places roundabout, before heading to the palace.

Ulfric's Palace

Ulfric was in there having a heated discussion about strategy with one of his advisors, so I listened to them bicker for a while before sneaking upstairs and liberating a certain book someone wanted me to find.

Wargaming in Tamriel

Then I headed back down and spoke to the man who killed Elsif’s hubby.

He told the story a little differently, that yes, he had shouted the king down, but had slain him fair and square with a sword. And that a milk drinker didn’t really deserve to be king… if he can’t defend himself, how can he defend the realm?

I suppose he had a point, but I didn’t really like his attitude.

He asked me if I was going to join his clause and I kept a straight face and didn’t commit to a thing.

Ulfric's Throne

I had a few other errands to run in town - get skooma for a lizard man, that kinda junk… and then another orphan?

This fellow was a little bit unhinged.

This Kid is Sus

Apparently his mother died, and he was sent off to an orphanage where apparently he had a poor time.

He was especially disappointed by a certain matron called "Kind" and would like me to assassinate her.

I guess I’ll see if she deserves an arrow or not.

The name "Kind" sounds a bit like a cover.
