I had another bit of a hiatus from VR, but finally strapped myself in to continue my adventures... figure I should try and finish this game before they get around to making Starfield VR.
Took a moment to get my bearings again, Steam had an update and I thought the had messed with my button mappings, but I think it was more that I didn't remember what my mappings were... so yeah.
Oh and I thought I'd try (for science!) to see what the game would be like if I used my noise cancelling earbuds instead of the inbuilt Oculus Quest 2 speakers... y'know, block the buzz of the fish tank pumps and the whirr of the dishwasher and increase the level of immersion? Or at least that's what I thought. Realistically I didn't notice much of a difference, except after a few hours my ears were sore from wearing earbuds. 😆
Anyhow, there were only a few more spots on the map to visit, so I wandered straight up the side of the mountain...
And found some friendly looking fellows to say 'hello' to. They told me to move along, but I kinda wasn't listening.
So they tried to move me along, and... well, we know how that goes...
Quite close by, there was a gruesome altar with still lit candles surrounding a fresh sacrifice and a nearby cave. I was sus.
I followed the trail of blood into the cave and thought it prudent to start sneaking.
I disturbed a coven of hagravens, three in total, so I perforated them from the shadows and looted their cave.
I emerged to a lovely night sky - it really is beautiful in VR, these 2D screenshots are a pale facsimile for the 'real' thing.
It was time to go to the final point on the map - the temple that all these sleep-walking villagers were building.
I met back up with Frea, and we headed in to the gloom.
It looked like a friendly place. Cages with people left to blanch over hot coals until they were just a pile of bones.
Skeletons left lying about on the floor like a warning of what happens to trespassers who dare enter their sanctum.
And more cages and cultists and draugr.
Ooh, and treasure.
Lydia caught an arrow in the forehead again, but she's tough. She struts about, head held high, like it's a crown or something.
Then I came to a trapped room, and Frea just sat down. Said she'd wait for me to get past all those razor-sharp blades. I mean, fair enough - it's kinda what I do - but still.
I heard some 'ouch' noises from Lydia and Sofia, so I guess they weren't as smart as Frea.
Then we polished off a few more draugr and headed deeper into the temple.
By this time, it was getting a bit late RL, and my legs were not used to crouching after a few months of no VR, so I saved it there and will deal with the inner sanctum... soon?
