Welllll, I got a new SSD for christmas, so reinstalled windows and it took a while before I got VR streaming things back up and running… had some particular trouble because the new windows install decided to assign ‘e’ to my games drive instead of ‘d’. And apparently some of the mod stuff baked in the d:\ and cracked the shits over not being able to find stuff. So there was a night spent in vscode updating all the stuff and troubleshooting… but we’re back up and running again.
Being a bit of a celebrity with this town after solving the mine issues, the advisor to the mayor? lord? king? <insert title of important person who runs the town>... anyway, the advisor came to me for some help. He thinks there’s a plot to assassinate said important person, and would like my help to investigate.
Naturally, I agreed as I enjoy investigating (and meting out justice).
I went and asked the barkeep for gossip, he suggested I wait in a certain tomb, and so I did that, snuck up to see who was there, then brought the accusation back to the advisor.
Then the advisor said “but we need evidence!”, and gave me the key to their manor house (IDK how he got the key, but anyway)... so went into their house in sneak mode and went looking for evidence.
Apparently they had a bell on their door, because they were straight to the “IMMA KILL YOU!”, without any of that “huh? did you hear something?” that usually goes on when you’re sneaking about.
So I obliged in their suicide by dragonborn, and then went looking for evidence.
Personally I think the skulls in the display cabinet are the smoking gun, but the advisor wanted something in writing, so I ransacked their safe and found the incriminating documents.
It feels a bit sus executing first, and gathering evidence after, but at least there was evidence. Would have felt a bit more contrite if they had been innocents just defending their home from a dragonburglar.
So I went back to the advisor with the evidence and he asked me to make haste and clean up the rest of the family before they could escape.
I had a few stops to make on the way to the abandoned castle where they were allegedly hiding out, so I figured no problem.
First stop was the dude I hired to excavate the barrow earlier. He had sent me a letter asking for help.
As I approached the excavation site, a dragon decided to get all uppity. I asked it to hush, so I could talk to the man, but it also decided that suicide by dragonborn was its preferred option.
When we finally had some silence, I asked what the problem with the excavation was. Apparently they disturbed some draugr and got all his diggers killed. Whoops.
He told me the excavation was over, unless I could clear the place… so I said okay, but not today, I have this other job to do first.
Next stop was to check for this missing tea lady Varona, so wizardy mcwizardface can get his cup of tea.
She be ded. Sand people.
I informed the wizard and he was not best pleased. Apparently I must find him a new assistant promptly, because his other minions don’t make the tea how he likes it.
I’d say first world problems, but I’m not sure you can call this dead island much of a first world… so perhaps he’s right, perhaps it is critical he gets a properly brewed cup of tea?
And, in addition to tea, he’d also like me to get some more volcanic rock. I guess that can be arranged.
Went up the hill to the hideout, and the guards I was supposed to be meeting there had been assassinated. Those assassins jumped me the moment I approached, and were quickly laid to rest.
Headed into the ruins which was crawling with assassins, and portcullises? portculli? …
They used it to their advantage, filling Lydia with plentiful arrows until I could figure out where the sneaky chains were to open the bars.
But we eventually got through to the final family members and ended their bloodline.
I think they might have wanted to negotiate? But I did it like Corben Dallas, headshots all round.
Headed back to the advisor and told him “job done”. He was elated, and took me to the important dude. The important dude said thanks, you’ve proven your worth and are now a citizen, and btdubs, because you solved the case, all the bad guys stuff is now yours. So I got to keep the key to the manor.
Headed in, to my fancy new digs, and Lucien was “hmm, you should get this place decorated”.
He’s not wrong. I’ve got two dead bodies and a case full of skulls in my new home… I do kinda look like a serial killer.
