Skyrim VR... Day 20

The road from Whiterun to Falkreath wasn’t without its surprises, ambushes from assassins, cultists and frostbite spiders… but we made it by the early evening and started collecting quests.

This old man lost his journal, this middle aged man lost his daughter, this young scholar wants a tour guide to take him to dwarven ruins, and that shifty fellow inherited a kingdom and wants me to clean up his dirty laundry. Oh and better not forget the missing puppy.

Well, the puppy was easy enough to find, but he started talking to me (or am I just going crazy?)... anyhow, he wanted me to go see some nearby shrine to his master and started scampering off down the road.

As is always the story with dogs, you don’t take them for walks, they take you for runs, and we ran right into a bandit trap.

By the time I’d dealt with them, the dog had scampered off down the road and there was no hope of catching up with him, so I also killed a bear and looted the nearby cabin that had been recently burninated by a dragon.

Eventually it dropped an icon on the map saying meet the dog here, and I fast travelled back to that vampire cave I had cleared a long time ago.

Given it was already cleared, we just jogged in to the final boss room and there was the pup sitting at the foot of a statue.

The statue then talked to me (more concerns for sanity) and thanked me for killing all the vampires who had prayed for him to cure them of their vampirism. Apparently we’re dealing with a statue that thinks that death is the same thing as a cure… but, well, he wanted me to go fetch an axe, so that he could amuse himself.

It sounded like a really bad idea, but I like bad ideas (and the dog won’t stop following me around), so I’ll go get him his axe and see what kind of trouble we get into.

So given I was almost all the way back at Ivarstead and had a quest for 10 bear pelts to hand in, I wandered the rest of the way and turned them into that grumpy lumberjackette.

Then it was fast travel back to Falkreath to deal with the next problem.

The killer of the little girl was in prison, and turned out to be a werewolf with a cursed ring. I said I’d help him break the curse and he gave me the ring and told me to go talk to the god of the hunt, then he turned into a werewolf and escaped.

Naturally, I wasn’t impressed, I thought he was going to stand trial for his crimes while I deal with this curse of his, but apparently he had a different kind of trial in mind.

I found a majestic white stag in the woods at the quest marker and shot it in the face, then talked to the god of the hunt who sent me off to hunt the werewolf… which to be honest is what I was already planning to do.

So we trapsed back down the hill and across the lake and over the mountain and found the cave where the werewolf was hanging out… a cave full of corpses of failed hunters.

So I took everything useful along the way and then confronted the beast.

It was a short battle, then I skinned him and got a fancy new set of armour that… is completely bugged out - the texture is missing and is just a solid colour that changes colour each time you zone… I think it’s tied to the skybox colour because it’s going different shades of blues and blacks.

Anyway, werewolf dealt with, we continued up the mountains and got hit by another bunch of cultists on our way to find the missing hunting party. We took them by surprise this time, and they perished quickly.

The hunting party had found a grizzly end in the cave at the claws of several bears, with one straggler outside who begged for help.

I went in and it wasn’t just bears, there were some dryad type things, glowing tree people of some kind that were allied with the bears - perhaps even controlling them. I dropped the first tree person, and then we were charged by four bears. Got the first two okay, then started shooting and bear number three but Sofia kept on getting in the way and ended up wearing a half dozen arrows that were meant for the bear.

After making the cave safe I returned to the hunter outside who thanked me and gave me a lucky dagger. I didn’t actually look at it yet to see if it’s any good… but it’s a dagger, so I’m thinking it’s probably just junk.

Then some rando ran up to me, handed me some magical elf armour, told me to keep quiet or else, and fucked off again.

Then some other rando ran up to me, asked if I’d seen some rando around with stolen goods, to which I lied and said ‘no’. Then rando number two spotted rando number one and killed him while I wandered off with the armour.

Next up was a bandit camp, this one was in the main world, not a cave, so that was a nice change. They did have a small mine at the back of the camp which had their leader and some iron ore in it, so we cleared that spot too and headed on to our next target.

NGL, I got lost and came across some burnt out horse and cart, so I think there might be a dragon in this area too, but I didn’t see or hear it. I did see some cultists, or rather, they ambushed us along with some frostbite spiders and this time it was a bit touch and go, but we made it thru.

Next quest marker is a hagraven.

I wonder if I’ll have to marry this one too.
