So there I was, at a bit of a loose end after the rather permanent ending of my betrothal, but some pretty adventurer-come-peasant had asked me to sort out her bandit problem and their lair was nearby, so that seemed like a good way to pass time.
As I was walking up the road toward their cave, I came across a slightly rundown castle, and there were some mages there, so I wandered in expecting to say hello to a fellow caster and maybe trade some items.
And got nuked.
I loaded my game, and knowing what to expect, I headed back up to the magey castle and made sure it was an abandoned castle when I left. I guess some other ruffians can move in.
Then it was bandit cave time. It was a short stroll up the hill and into the soon-to-be-abandoned cave, and went about clearing it. The first section was a breeze, then I got into a large underground lake with two waterfalls. It was quite nice! Aside from the smelly bandit scum.
There was a bit of a skirmish, but we got seen by some archers on the top of the waterfalls so had to get out of that open area to avoid the rain of arrows. Up a passage, we triggered a rock fall but managed to get away. Given the amount of noise, we had another skirmish quite shortly thereafter.
I was feeling pretty good about the difficulty level, each of the fights were challenging but not stupid-impossible and I was having a good time, looting, killing, grabbing treasure from the chests… getting immersed in the environment.
Continued up to the area one set of archers had been shooting me at, and… got slaughtered.
Where was my save game? About 40 minutes ago when I first entered the cave. Fuckin’ :RIP: …
So with a sour taste in my mouth I googled autosave mods for a bit (didn’t seem to be any standouts that were compatible with VR) and then went to bed.
